Circa 1920’s but I simply cannot find anything like this so I welcome correction. Perhaps the closest to complete that you’ll ever see. Sold as a collectible antique. Let’s take a tour….
Measures 19 3/4” x 11” x 5 1/2” when closed. WEIGHS OVER 17 POUNDS. The handle DOES still carry the weight but I’m no longer going to use it. This is a very old item and I’m starting to see a little bit of splitting at the loops that hold the handle onto the case. I’m only carrying the case from the bottom from now on.
The clasps on the left and right still work properly. The center clasp has had its pin removed because at some point the key went missing. That hardware no longer functions. I am not the one who removed the pin and the pin is no longer available.
All hinges are still firmly attached with no splits or separation. The case still opens and closes properly.
Along the top row there are four glass bottles with silver threaded lids, and three rectangular containers with silver lids. All of the glass has the ribbed design that you can see in the photos. I’m only seeing two notable flaws (aside from needing a cleaning) in this row of six. The slender container on the far right has a chip on one upper corner. The only other notable issue is the first bottle on the left with the threaded cap. That cap doesn’t appear to seat properly. Perhaps this is an easy fix, but I’m going to leave it alone.
Now for the row of compartments just below the aforementioned glass row. Four of the five compartments are removable boxes with press button clasps. All of the leather tabs are still intact, and all of the clasps still work properly. The compartment on the far left opens to reveal a broken strap on the backside of that door. I don’t know what went here, but it is gone now.
Now for the bottom portion of the case. On the far left, there is a glass jar with silver lid. It is in very good condition. On the opposite side there was once an identical jar. It is missing. Between those two jars are two leather boxes attached at the hinge. Both of them open and close properly, and both have their leather tabs still intact.
This leads us to the vanity set. First, the mirror is in very good condition. The beveled glass is in very nice condition. There are five different style brushes. All of them are in good condition and they don’t shed too much. There is a shoehorn and a few other tools that frankly I do not know how to identify. These tools are in good condition. The comb is missing one of the small tines. There are two shallow leather drawers that pull out, one on each side. Those are in very good condition. It looks like there are a few areas where other items may have been. Please remember that if you do not see an item clearly in the photo, it is not here.
I understand that the price on this item is high. I can’t find anything like this, and I can find no old auction records for anything like this. If you would like to make an offer, please do not let the asking price deter you. Once again, this item is sold as a collectible antique, not a functioning vanity case. It’s a great early piece of Louis Vuitton history. I’m selling it largely as I found it. I did not put a lot of time into cleaning it, as I do not want to risk doing any damage
