This is a very fine pair of late 18th or very early 19th century Antique French basket top hand wrought iron andirons or fire-dogs. Black wrought iron. Barn found and removed from gigantic fireplace. Measuring 28 inches high to top of basket X 14.5 wide at feet X 24 inches deep for dogs. Very gothic design with each dog having a riveted basket top, solid post and hand hammered scroll feet with a single piece bent rear dog arm. One andiron with swing crane pot bar for holding pots to cook. No makers mark found. Very dusty from sitting in an unused fireplace for years.
Items can be picked up in New Rochelle, NY 10805 at my storage unit by appointment only or I can delivery locally.
