Italian grand tour marble and alabaster sphere on stand. This elegant object originates from a dedicated collection of grand tour items and exemplifies the refined souvenirs acquired by travelers to Italy in the 18th and 19th centuries. The sphere itself measures approximately 4 inches in diameter and is carved from marble and exceptionally fine alabaster, prized for its luminous quality and subtle translucence.
The ball and stand were originally separate components and have since been carefully joined, a common occurrence with grand tour objects over time. The stand complements the sphere in both material and proportion, allowing the beauty of the stone to take center stage. Italian in origin, the quality of the alabaster is particularly noteworthy, displaying a soft glow and refined finish.
A timeless and highly decorative grand tour piece, ideal for collectors of classical objects and historic decorative arts, offering both sculptural presence and historical context.
