Bring instant Old-World elegance to your home with this hand-detailed lithograph by Francis Calcraft Turner (British, 1746–1846) from the beloved “The Noble Tips” series—an iconic collection of spirited sporting scenes celebrating the pageantry of British fox hunting.
This particular work, titled “Tipperary Boys — The Marquis at Home,” captures the moment just before the chase: riders in traditional red hunting coats gather on horseback while a lively pack of hounds waits at attention in the foreground. The landscape, attire, and formal grouping evoke the romance of the English countryside and the timeless rituals of aristocratic sport.
The print features hand-applied color detailing (over lithographic printing), giving it that richly layered look collectors love—crisp uniforms, expressive horses, animated hounds, and subtle atmospheric sky tones.
Beautifully presented in an elegant ornate gilt frame with a classic mat and inner gold liner, this piece is ready to hang and instantly elevates a space—perfect for a library, office, entry hall, bar room, den, or equestrian-themed interior.
A true “heritage statement” artwork—sophisticated, storied, and endlessly decor-friendly.
Most “The Noble Tips” series prints were produced in the early-to-mid 1850s — typically circa 1852–1853.
Why I’m confident (based on exact titles)
The specific Noble Tips titles have — like:
• “Killing no MURDER”
• “Melody”
• “The Boys”
• “Tipperary … The Marquis at Home”
…are recorded as being part of Moore’s “Tally Ho! To the Sports” publication, with examples published January 12, 1853 (London).
Even though the images are “after” Turner (and Turner is often misdated), your actual lithographs are Victorian-era sporting prints from the 1850s, and your framing could be later (often late 19th / early 20th c.).
“Mid-19th century (circa 1852–1853), later framing.”
“Published London, 1853 — Moore’s Tally Ho! sporting series.”
