1940s Italian Canova Lion Cast Brass Bookends — A Pair.
Very Good preloved condition with no major imperfections. Each bookend has green felt on the bases.

Elegant mid‑century Italian brass lions in the Canova tradition. Heavy, well‑detailed pair with attractive patina—functional and decorative.
The lion bookends are replicas of the famous sculptures by the Italian artist Antonio Canova. The originals are two marble lions ("Sleeping Lion" and "Crouching Lion") created for the tomb of Pope Clement XIII in St. Peter's Basilica, Rome. The Artist Antonio Canova (1757-1822), was a renowned neoclassical sculptor.
