The Batak are known for the elaborate decoration of their buildings and these decorative panel additions would have been one of a number of panels and carvings which would have decorated the front facade of an important structure; likely from a granary, or the house of a village leader. A stylised lion head, Singa, is the central design focus, and provides protection. The panels are coloured with orange, white and black, the three key colours found in Batak house decoration.
