An exceptional example of pieces marketed through luxury retailers and international exhibitions, this vase features a hand-painted female bust in the classic fin-de-siècle aesthetic, framed by large chrysanthemum blossoms and set against a richly shaded ground transitioning from deep oxblood to amber tones. The elongated neck, balanced proportions, and sculptural twin handles with gilt finish exemplify the movement’s synthesis of fine art and decorative form.

This would be considered a Rare Piece. The D'Arcy Studio out of Kalamazoo Michigan was not in business for very long. It was begun in 1903 and was out of business by 1905. Most designs were produced in dozens, so finding one intact toon today’s market is rare. Finding one in excellent condition is ultra-rare.

The Artist, Schindler, was a very well thought of Artist. It appears that he painted for many of the Pickard Era Decorating Studios, including Royal Vienna, Willets Belleek, Pouyat Limoges (JPL), the Yeschek design studio, started by his friend, Joseph Yeschek,

The portrait is executed in the Belle Époque idealized style — soft modeling, luminous skin tones, and flowing natural motifs — hallmarks of the period’s fascination with femininity, nature, and romantic symbolism.
