An outstanding example of French post-war furniture design: This rare teak and oak desk is attributed to the leading French designer Marcel Gascoin and dates from the late 1940s to the early 1950s. Gascoin's designs are characterized by functional clarity, solid craftsmanship, and a minimalist design language—qualities that made him a defining figure in modern French furniture design of the 1950s.
The desk features a clearly proportioned work surface, complemented by an integrated bookcase with built-in bookends that appears to "float" behind the tabletop, lending the piece a distinctive sculptural element. This feature combines practical functionality with aesthetic lightness—a hallmark of many of Gascoin's furniture pieces from this period.
The desk has been professionally restored and is now in excellent condition. This piece is attributed to the mentioned designer/maker. It has no attribution mark and no
official proof of authenticity,
however it is well documented in design history. I take full responsibility for any authenticity
