After Frederic Remington (American 1861-1909) ‘Teaching a Mustang Pony to Pack Dead Game’, Limited 1975 Edition Wood Engraving Pulled From Original 1890 Wood Block. Signed in the plate and pencil numbered 263/1950. Commissioned by the Amon Carter Museum of Western Art with a blind stamp and authentication by printer- The Collector's Guild Ltd. In this wood engraving, Frederic Remington renders a group of cowboys wrangling a young mustang using lassos. Surrounding the animal, the cowboys topple to the ground as they grapple with the rope controlled by the fierce animal who is reluctant to pack their dead kill home. Authentication on the back reads in part- The Amon Carter Museum of Western Art in Association with The Collector's Guild Ltd. certifies and warrants that 'Teaching a Mustang to Pack Dead Game' is an original Frederic Remington wood engraving, pulled from the original woodblock in the same manner as was used at 'Harper's Weekly' on August 16, 1890. The original woodblocks are now in the collection of The Amon Carter Museum. This wood engraving was pulled at the workshops of Morgan Press, Dobbs Ferry, New York in 1975 in a numbered and limited edition of 1950 and bears, in the lower right-hand corner, the raised seal of the museum. An additional 25 numbers in Roman Numerals are reserved for The Amon Carter Museum. Twenty-five Hors Concours (removed from commerce) were presented to the craftsmen who pulled these editions. The Museum further agrees that it will never again allow these blocks to be printed.
