A Very Charming And Extremely Attractive Early 19th Century, Georgian Ash & Elm Harlequin Set Of 12 Farmhouse Kitchen Windsor Chairs, Consisting Of 2 Armchairs And 10 Side Chairs, Having Scribed Edge To Typical Hooped Back, with Central Set Pierced Wheel Design Splats Flanked By Turned Upright Spindles And Torpedo Supports To Back, Over Well Figured Shaped Seats, Raised On Elegant Turned Legs And Stretchers.
This fabulous harlequin set of early 19th century kitchen chairs are really lovely examples of their type. They are very much the early 19th century Georgian type, not the late 19th century or even early 20th century type which you can find so many of, and therefore they have retained a lovely warm colour and surface to go alongside the elegant designs.
It is also of course quite rare to find a long set like this. More often than not you will be looking at sets of 4, 6, or 8. Possibly even 10 at a push, but we don't see many sets of 12 and that in itself adds great desirability and value. As mentioned above that 12 consits of 2 chairs with arms and 10 chairs without arms.
As is almost always the case with english, country made, dining chairs there are various differences to some of the turnings and detailed parts of these chairs, as well as to some of the measurements. It should also be noted that the two carver armchairs are slightly different from each other in terms of their design. That said the slight differences between the chairs adds great character and even allows for the owner to be selective as to who is seated where.
Perfect around a wide variety of dining tables these are a great design of chair. They are pretty robust, whilst also being elegant and small enough to tuck nicely around a table at the same time. This is often a difficult combination to find with english country chairs.
As with all items we offer for sale the chairs have been inspected and any minor issues attended to in our workshops by our highly skilled, traditional antique furniture restorers before being offered for sale. They have also received a natural wax polish ensuring they are in tip top condition and ready to place straight into the home after purchase.
