Howard W. Willard was born in Danville, IL on Sept. 8, 1894. Willard moved to California as a child. His contact there with Mexican and Oriental cultures later provided much of the subject matter of his artworks. Following his studies in NYC at the ASL, he worked in Los Angeles as a commercial artist from 1919. During WWII he served as art director of the Department of Psychological Warfare. Following the war, he settled in NYC as an illustrator for Reader's Digest.
A fine opportunity!
