This striking mid-century Chinese export vase features rich hand-painted figural scenes, extensive gilt decoration, and dramatic sculptural figurative handles. Executed in the popular Satsuma-style aesthetic, the surface is densely ornamented with layered patterns, raised enamel details, and a softly crackled glaze, creating a highly decorative and visually engaging piece.
The baluster form rises from a square pedestal base and is embellished throughout with traditional courtly scenes, florals, and geometric borders. Heavy gold accents highlight the rim, handles, and foot, lending the vase a luxurious presence well suited for display on a console, mantel, or pedestal.
Marked “Made in China” on the underside, this vase was produced for the Western export market in the mid-20th century and reflects the era’s fascination with ornate Asian decorative arts. While inspired by Japanese Satsuma ware, this example is Chinese export, made purely as a decorative object rather than functional porcelain.
A bold statement piece that works beautifully in eclectic, Hollywood Regency, Chinoiserie, or traditional interiors.
