Aluminum housewares became fashionable during the 1930s, at a time when most Americans could not afford luxury metals like silver. At one time there were over 200 companies crafting hand-hammered and hand forged aluminum wares. This beauty’s unique and whimsical design consists of three circular connected trays, small, medium and large, fashioned with scalloped and serrated edges and an “Atomic” machine-swirl design on the top side of each tray; undersides are smooth aluminum. It weighs 1 lb. 9 oz. and measures as follows:

Overall: 14” x 11½” x 11½” H/W/D
Small tray: 5½” W/D
Medium tray: 8¼” W/D
Large tray: 11½” W/D
Clearance between each tier: 4½”

This beauty is a hand forged piece, circa 1950 to early 1960s. Maker is unknown. In overall excellent condition with age-appropriate wear that is typical for aluminum ware from this period. There is an indiscernible wear spot one side of the handle and on one of the connecting pieces (see photos 13, 14 & 15) that does not affect the beauty or utility of the tray. FYI, abrasive scrubbies and gritty cleaners are to hammered aluminum what wooden stakes are to vampires, never should they cross paths. Note, photographed in the round to show all sides and nuances of the design and construction throughout.

A visually pleasing centerpiece tray to bring out at your next gathering or to use as a fanciful décor accent on a kitchen island, table or vanity top filled with whatever your heart desires.
