RFrench Perfit Fils Ltd. Rare Wrought iron baker’s rack with butcher block shelf & wine rack.
Wine bottle storage and Wine glasses hang under the wine storage cage. There were probably doors and shelved on the bottom.
This item is a French Perfit Fils Ltd. baker's rack wine rack, an antique piece likely dating early 20th century. It is a large, stately shelving unit constructed from heavy wrought iron with polished brass accents, and the maker's mark "Perfit Fils Ltd. Paris France" is found on one of the lower legs.
The rack features an ornate, scrolling wrought iron frame complemented by brass finials and banding around the shelves.
Aesthetic: The design is characteristic of French Provincial or bistro style, giving it a rustic yet elegant appeal.
Condition: As an antique piece, it shows signs of age such as tarnishing to the brass or wear to the iron finish, which is often considered part of its authentic patina and charm.
The history of Perfit Fils Ltd is primarily defined by its period of operation and the type of product it manufactured.
The company was a French manufacturer based in Paris, known for crafting high-quality, heavy-duty wrought iron and brass furniture, most notably the large baker's racks (boulangerie racks) like the one pictured. These pieces typically date from the late 19th century to the mid-20th century. The one picture is most likely an early 20th century rack.
Originally, these racks were functional items used in French bakeries and patisseries to display bread, cheese, and other goods. Over time, with their ornate scrolling ironwork, brass accents, and characteristic "wheat" adornments—a symbol of prosperity and craftsmanship—they became sought-after vintage and antique furniture pieces for home interiors. The Perfit Fils Ltd brand name is found stamped on the base of an authentic piece.
