Wilhelm Schlote (born March 4, 1946, in Lüdenscheid) is a German draftsman, poster artist, children's book author and cartoonist. Since 1980, Schlote has created a variety of city posters, calendars, and commissioned works. He made city posters for almost all major German cities, and his cartoons and drawings have appeared in magazines such as The Time, Rheinischer Merkur, The New Yorker, Le Monde, and Le Figaro.
He became known mainly through his thematic, large-format posters, where he tells stories with his characteristic stick figures and jokes. Be it cities or themes, Wilhelm Schlote creates posters with lovingly poetic charm.

This poster, in particular, was created for the Rheingau district. Translated as "Rhine District", it is located on the Northern side of the Rhine between the German towns of Wiesbaden and Lorch near Frankfurt. It is famous for Rheingau wines, especially the "Rheingauer Riesling," and its many taverns.
