Titled "Woodstock Pastoral," this etching depicts a dense array of mythological creatures and characters. This piece is signed “J Levine, circa 1950” to the bottom right corner and numbered 26/120 to the bottom left corner. The etching is displayed in a black frame and in a white mat.

Jack Levine was an American painter who specialized in satirical and social commentary regarding class systems and authority structures in the West. Levine enrolled in art classes at the Museum of Fine Arts School of Boston and received free art lessons from Dr. Denman Ross of Harvard University, who recognized his exceptional talent. Unlike many artists of the time period, Levine did not stray from figural subject matter for abstract compositions. His work can now be found in the collections of the Art Institute of Chicago, The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, and the Phillips Collection in Washington, D.C., among others. See less
