Mid 20th Century Spanish Art Moderne Carpet ( 4' x 6'2" - 122 x 188 ) A yellow and salmon-red reciprocal curved arrowhead design in eight rows grows from the sides and one end border of this bitonal Moderne Spanish scatter. The end border is straight across at one end and wavy at the other, but balanced anyway. This high pile rug may be a Cogolin production. Good condition.
Vintage Art Deco - European Spanish Knotted Rug, Circa Date: 1950s. This exceptional Spanish knotted rug captures the bold, graphic sensibilities of mid-century design, merging the geometric discipline of Art Deco with the vibrant palette of the 1950s. It represents a superb example of vintage area rugs that prioritized texture and high-impact coloration over traditional motifs.
The design features a continuous, interlocking chain motif rendered in a dense, high pile. This strong geometric structure creates a dynamic visual rhythm across the entire field, classifying it as a classic example of allover rugs where the pattern repeats seamlessly without a defined central medallion or border. The tactile quality of the wool further emphasizes the three-dimensional nature of the repeating links.
The palette is intentionally striking, utilizing a brilliant, saturated magenta ground contrasted sharply by the thick, raised lines of brilliant gold. The use of such intense, opposing hues amplifies the modern aesthetic and makes this piece a definitive statement among gold yellow orange color rugs, reflecting the era's departure from muted, classical palettes toward electric, expressive color combinations.
Due to its dimensions, this piece functions perfectly as one of the highly versatile small scatter size rugs, ideal for adding a concentrated burst of color and texture to a hallway, entryway, or bedside placement. Its graphic simplicity ensures it complements both minimalist and maximalist interiors, offering a sophisticated nod to post-war European design.
