The Virgin wears a golden tunic and a blue mantle, while the Child holds the orb as a symbol of his universal sovereignty. The composition maintains a certain frontality inherited from medieval models, but softened in the features and folds, characteristic of the popular late Baroque style of the 18th century. The work retains its original polychromy with wear, craquelure, and losses in some areas, testifying to its authenticity and age. It is a piece intended for devotional use, possibly in a domestic or convent setting, and is highly representative of Spanish folk art of the 18th century. See less
