Devotional … Read more Our Lady of Portillo of Arévalo (Our Lady of Mount Carmel), polychrome wood carving, Spanish school, 17th century ???? Devotional carving in polychrome and gilded wood representing Our Lady of Portillo of Arévalo, a local devotion to Our Lady of Mount Carmel. Made in the Spanish school of the 17th century, it shows the crowned Virgin, standing on a pedestal with cherub heads, with her arms outstretched in a protective gesture. Although some of her original attributes have disappeared (probably scapulars or the Christ Child), she retains much of the polychromy and gilding with an antique patina.
