Awarded in 1900, a sterling silver and faceted crystal flask was the First Prize trophy for Sword Exercise presented to a regimental sergeant. The cup has been engraved to commemorate this event. The flask measures 5.5 inches high, 2.75 inches wide and 1.25 inch deep. The cup and the top stopper bear full English sterling silver hallmarks for 1899, Sheffield, makers G & JWH. The silver cup alone weighs 58 grams. The flask is in very good condition with no damage or issues to report.

Also included with the flask is a large black and white framed photograph of the recipient in full uniform on horseback holding a sword. There is text beneath the photo that matches the inscription on the flask. The frame is around 100 years old with gold gilt border. The photograph is under a matte with a hand painted colored border line. The frame measures 27 inches wide, 23 inches high and 1 inch deep. The photograph measures 19 inches wide by 15 inches high. The photograph is under glass but there are some losses/scratches. Please review photos for further assessment.

The West Somerset Yeomanry Company was a Yeomanry regiment of the British Army. First raised in 1794, it participated in the Second Boer War and World War I before being converted to an artillery regiment. It served in World War II (as two field artillery regiments). Post-war it was gradually reduced in strength until the yeomanry lineage of the successor unit was discontinued on 9 November 1988. See less
