The Air One lounge chair was designed by Ross Lovegrove (British industrial designer, b. 1958) for the Italian manufacturer Edra S.p.A. and introduced around 2000 as part of Lovegrove’s exploration of organic, lightweight forms in furniture design.

Unlike traditional upholstered seating, the Air One chair was produced in pressed polypropylene foam with a textured, “waffle”-like structure, making it notably light, durable, and stackable—a combination of properties that aligned with Lovegrove’s interest in material innovation and functional aesthetics.

Although production was limited and the model was available only for a brief period, Air One has been recognized within design markets and museum collections (for example, an Air One armchair is held in the Metropolitan Museum of Art collection) as an example of early 21st-century experimental furniture that blurs the boundaries between industrial design, sculptural form, and functional seating.
