This vintage Chinese porcelain serving bowl features a boldly hand-painted koi fish motif rendered in rich royal blue against a soft white back ground. The expressive brushwork, fluid lines, and subtle variations in glaze speak to traditional hand-craftsmanship rather than factory perfection.
The underside bears a Made in China mark, indicating mid- to late-20th-century production, circa 1970s–1980s. Pieces from this era were often hand-formed and hand-decorated, which accounts for the organic character and natural variations present throughout.
Measuring approximately 9 inches in diameter and 2 inches deep, this bowl is well-suited for serving, display, or use as a decorative accent in a chinoiserie-inspired interior, collected tabletop, or curated shelf vignette.
Condition
There are minor surface irregularities consistent with hand-making, including small specks of clay visible beneath the glaze. there is one spot just above the blue fish, where there is an uneven amount of paint that occurred during the making of the bowl These are inherent to the production process and add authenticity and character rather than detracting from the piece. on the base there is some where, with this likely rested on a shelf, with a scuff to the edge, see the photo
