The framer incorporated four polished mirrors along the edges of the flat moulding, each angled outward, and finished both the outer surface and inner lip with an elegant gilding. The result is a luminous, refined optical effect of great sophistication. Marco Lodola, born in Dorno (Pavia) in 1955, studied at the Fine Arts Academies of Florence and Milan. In the early 1980s, he was among the leading figures of the “New Futurism” movement, theorized by the critic Renato Barilli. His work is distinguished by vibrant colors, essential silhouettes, and references to pop culture—such as Vespa scooters, cars, pin-up girls, and dancers—and by the use of materials like plexiglass, light, and neon in his sculptures. This composition, created in the late 20th century, depicts the legendary Vespa with two young riders seated back-to-back in an affectionate embrace. The inner image size, approximately 45 × 21 cm (17.7 × 8.3 in), is rather unusual and enhances the horizontal development and rhythmic arrangement of the figures. Known for his ability to blend art, light, design, and pop imagery, Lodola expresses in this work the core principles of New Futurism and the dynamic energy of contemporary visual communication. The repetition of the figures, the purity of the drawing, and the intensity of the colors offer a modern, vibrant, and iconic visual experience. The piece is numbered “30/70” at the lower left, indicating that it is the 30th print from a limited edition of 70. It is a visually striking work, defined by bold chromatic contrasts and iconic silhouettes that fully embody Lodola’s pop-modern style. The artwork is in excellent overall condition. Dimensions: width 70 cm (27.6 in), height 56 cm (22 in), depth 3 cm (1.2 in). See less
