An atmospheric mid-century seascape that captures a tranquil harbour scene where moored fishing boats rest gently along the quay, executed in oil onto canvas and dated 1953.

The composition is anchored by two vessels, their masts and rigging forming a rhythmic lattice against a pale, open sky. A simple waterside building to the right introduces architectural balance, while the calm inlet reflects the boats in softened, broken tones, reinforcing the stillness of the moment.

Painted in a distinctly mid-century modern style, the work favours structure and mood over detail. Forms are simplified and confidently blocked in, lending the scene a quiet solidity and timeless charm.

The colour palette is muted and harmonious, dominated by soft greys, weathered whites, warm and earthy browns, with subtle accents of black and a touch of brick red along the roofline. These tones suggest early morning light and a cool coastal air, while the water is rendered in pale blues and silvery reflections.
