One of a kind handbag in cordoban or red Moroccan leather, rectangular in profile with a pointed flap, profusely embroidered with stylized floral designs in gold thread. The rose is the central flower throughout the ornamentation. The back of the handbag features a large Medici goblet filled with roses and adorned with a decorative border.
During the 18th century, at the height of the Grand Tour, Constantinople became a major destination for the European elite, fascinated by the city, its art, and its culture. Everything from or originating in Turkey was fashionable. The French term "Turquerie" (Turkey) was coined during this period.
These beautifully designed handbags were intended to be luxurious souvenirs.
A piece of refined beauty and high value for a discerning and selective art collector.
