This is a Queen Anne or early American style chair with carved arch along the top crest rail. The turned supports character you can feel as you move your hand along the legs. The craftsmanship with small indentations as wood working tools brought it to life only adds to its charm. Maple or oak with a golden honey-colored finish. The seat is a hand woven rush or cane material. It has a herringbone weave pattern. One nail is visible on the back left-hand side if seated, a very petite square head. (see photo)The back does have damage as you can see. The chair is recommended to be a decorative piece only.
Square head nails, would typically date this piece between 1790s-1890.
