Elegant and timeless English mahogany kneehole writing desk dating to the late Victorian / early Edwardian period (circa 1895–1910). This desk features a beautifully aged original leather writing surface with blind-tooled gilt border, a classic detail associated with English library and solicitor’s desks of the period.
The desk offers a functional and balanced layout with a central drawer over a shaped apron, flanked by two banks of drawers (four total side drawers). Drawers are fitted with original brass bail pulls and British “Secure Lever” locks, a desirable indicator of quality English manufacture. Drawer construction shows hand-cut dovetails and oak secondary wood, signaling traditional craftsmanship and quality construction.
Raised on tapered legs with brass casters, the desk is both refined and practical, suitable for use as a writing desk, home office desk, or library piece. Finished on back side so can be placed in center of a room. Unmarked other than roman numerals on bottoms of drawers and drawer frames.
