19th-century baroque oak secretary with a newer professionally applied black painted exterior finish, lightly distressed to reveal natural wood beneath. The interior is painted a contrasting blue and fitted with traditional petite curved drawers. The lower chest features attractive Bombay-style curves, enhancing the overall profile of the piece. This Danish bureau is both dramatic and elegant.
Decorative brass pulls, key escutcheons, and detailed brass elements along the feet elevate the design. Carved embellishments are visible at the side handles and along the crown. The top cabinet opens with the included key and contains two standard shelves and an upper curved notched spoon rack, originally intended for displaying family silver.
The desktop opens using the key as a pull only and rests on extending wooden arms. Interior drawer bottoms show typical age-related separation of planks and some staining. Exterior surfaces show scratches, dings and nicks consistent with age. Heavy brass side handles with floral medallions remain intact. Restored, strong, stable, and ready for use.
