They are Gothic-Mediterranean in style emboldened by a reddish brown patina from oxidation of the iron and centuries of exposure to high heat. Known as "landiers" in French, these heavy andirons are designed for cooking indicated by spit hooks just above their feet, and caged cups at the top for warming over the flames.
