The molding is traced with a subtle foliate design, enhanced by the red bole substrate coming through the gold gilt for tactile interest and dimension. Forming a kind of pediment atop the tall frame is the ornamental crest which uses the familiar imagery of rococo tastes (scrolling details, flora) to project abundance and luxury within the restrained sophistication of the Louis Philippe period. Traced by a narrow, beaded trim is the original mirror plate that is barely touched by oxidized foxing but glitters with an accumulation of crystals along the bottom edge.
