An elegant 18th-century Oak open armchair crafted in the refined Queen Anne style, displaying the graceful proportions and fluid lines characteristic of the period. The chair features a beautifully shaped central splat, gently contoured and flanked by finely curved uprights that rise seamlessly into the arched top rail, creating a sense of lightness and balance. The generously swept arms are supported by delicately moulded arm supports, each terminating in finely carved swan heads, a decorative motif that adds both sculptural interest and sophistication.
The seat retains its traditional drop-in upholstered cushion, that complements the warmth of the warm Oak frame and enhances the chair’s period character. A hallmark of high-quality English craftsmanship of the era.
Rich in patina and visual presence, this armchair exemplifies the harmonious blend of comfort, artistry, and status associated with late 18th-century furniture. Circa 1770, it would have made a distinguished addition to a fashionable Georgian interior and remains a striking statement piece today.
Recently reupholstered with great attention to detail and professionally cleaned, ensuring a refreshed appearance, enhanced comfort, and a well-maintained finish.
The Oak frame exhibits a rich, naturally developed patina consistent with its age, revealing the quality of the timber and the integrity of the craftsmanship. The restrained upholstery, finished in a neutral linen-style fabric with traditional nailhead detailing, complements the architectural form without detracting from the historic character of the piece.
Elegant yet practical, this armchair is well suited for use as a dining armchair, library or writing chair, or as a refined accent accent chair within a formal interior. A rare and authentic seating piece offering both historical significance and timeless aesthetic appeal.
