Dimensions: height 20 cm, diameter 27 cm.

The exterior is richly decorated with floral motifs: large peonies (botan), complemented by elegant trailing leaves along the sides.

The decoration is executed in a refined lacquer technique with gold accents (maki-e) and softly coloured details.

Inside, it features a copper liner, typical of hibachi: originally it would have held charcoal as a compact household heating source, or to keep warmth close in a small setting.

Today, it works beautifully as a stylish interior accent. Use it as a cachepot (ideally with an inner pot or protective liner), a sculptural vessel for ikebana, or as a vide-poche for keys and small everyday objects.

The gold inscription on the back reads: 昭和三十三年度 栗生小学校卒業生一同, meaning: “Shōwa 33 school year (1958), from all graduates of Kurio Elementary School.” This gives the piece an extra personal, historical character.

In very good condition, with minor age-related wear consistent with use and age. See less
