Depicting a draped luminous medieval lady in a nocturnal garden, this image is reminiscent of a Guinevere archetype, a beautiful maiden framed by that luminous cobalt blue background for which Parrish was so well known. In original art gallery blue and gold frame. Measures 16 x 24" framed. Print is in antique condition with bright vivid colors though she does have a tear and other issues in the upper left corner of the print and age related wear on frame. Enchantment l Cinderella is a very desirable image from Maxfield Parrish's body of work. Here is some other info I found about the piece, in case it is of interest:
The artwork is characteristic of Parrish's distinctive style, which is known for its luminous colors and idealized, dreamlike imagery.
Glazing Technique: Parrish achieved the work's glowing quality and saturated hues (including the famous "Parrish blue") by applying numerous alternating layers of translucent paint and varnish over a blue and white monochrome underpainting.
Subject Matter: The piece features a solitary figure, presumably Cinderella, draped in white clothing against a deep cobalt sky, evoking a sense of fantasy and suspended motion.
Movement: Parrish was part of the American Imagists movement, influenced by European styles like Art Nouveau and the Arts and Crafts Movement.
Enchantment" is a famous oil painting by the American artist Maxfield Parrish, originally titled "Cinderella" when created around 1914. The title was later changed to Enchantment when it was used for a General Electric Mazda Lamp calendar in 1926.
Artist: Maxfield Parrish (American, 1870-1966).
Date: 1914 (some sources suggest 1913/1909).
Original Use: It was originally painted as an illustration for Hearst's Magazine, but was instead used as a cover for Harper's Bazaar in March 1914.
