The vessel features a slender, slightly flared neck and a gently swelling ovoid body, traditional in Japanese ceramic forms. The neck and the base are anchored by rich blue glazes—the top displaying a mottled, organic flow and the bottom finished with a structured, scalloped border.



The central body is enveloped in a bold orange-red ground, which serves as a vivid canvas for intricate gold leaf or "kinrande" style ornamentation. On one side, a mythical phoenix (ho-oh) is depicted with outstretched wings and flowing tail feathers, symbolizing grace and rebirth. The reverse side features a composition of stylized floral motifs and swirling clouds (karakusa), all rendered in fine, metallic gold lines that catch the light. The combination of the deep underglaze blue and the opulent overglaze gilding suggests a piece influenced by Kutani or Imari traditions, blending classical mythology with high-contrast decorative art.
