Vintage American Putti Bookends by Universal Statuary Corp., 1965 in cast resin.
This charming vintage pair of sculptural bookends features classical putti (cherubs) seated against stylized books and musical scores, one holding a lyre and the other a flute. Produced by Universal Statuary Corp. of Chicago and dated 1965, these bookends reflect the enduring mid-century fascination with Greco-Roman revival forms rendered in decorative resin.
The figures are executed in a matte white finish with softly aged patina that highlights the sculptural detailing in the hair, instruments, and architectural book forms. Both bookends retain the original molded bases and show a hand-inscribed artist signature on the back upper section, adding character and interest. The pair presents beautifully on a shelf, desk, or mantel and works well in traditional, neoclassical, Hollywood Regency, or eclectic interiors.
