Magnificent majolica ceramic vase, a potiche with a lid, glazed, vitrified, and decorated entirely by hand, finished with hand-scratched decorations in a Futurist style. Useful information for appraising this item:
In the last photo, we've included an article written by the Ligurian Art Documentation Institute, which discusses Bartolomeo Rossi's artistic work in detail. It highlights six vases made by the artist, including ours, demonstrating that this is an important vase. from our online searches, we found two vases by Bartolomeo Rossi, one smaller than ours, listed for €1,500-2,000 at Cambi Casa d'Aste in Milan, Italy, at the "20th Century Glass and Ceramics" auction on June 22, 2021, lot no. 32, titled "A union of iron and glass" (c. 1925), and another even smaller one, listed for €500-600, also at Cambi in the same auction, lot no. 68, titled "Vase with asymmetrical handles and a decor of polychrome enamels and outlined flowers (c. 1925)." We then found a final vase, larger and crafted with extremely fine artistic workmanship and a highly distinctive shape, in true Futurist style, listed for €3,000-3,500. All of this gives an idea of the importance of the ceramics created by this famous Italian artist.
(By searching for the items we list on Google, especially the title of the auction or sale listing in the same language as ours, the date, the lot number, and the auction house or the name of the selling website, you will most often be able to find and view the items mentioned.)
Information on the artist and/or manufacturer:
Bartolomeo Rossi was born in Savona in 1864 and began working as a ceramist at a very young age. In 1919, he opened his own factory, "Bartolomeo Rossi & Figli," which later changed its name to "CAS" (Ceramiche Artistiche Savonesi) in 1927. He began an interesting production of works in the classic Albisola style, alongside a line in Art Deco and Modernist styles. In the 1930s, he became fascinated by Futurism and, thanks in part to the collaboration of Giovanni Acquaviva, Ivos Pacetti, and Nino Strada, produced a series of works in this new style. Bartolomeo Rossi died in Savona in 1955. This piece has an attribution mark,
