Lady wilbraham ~ lady crewe
here is a truly unique and rare work!
a sumptuous double frame with a lover's knot, richly gilded, encloses two oval portraits of 18th-century noblewomen, engraved by watson from paintings by gardner.
a harmonious and precious ensemble that will certainly not go unnoticed, wherever you decide to hang it!
etchings, stippled manner, printed with colored inks (colored on the plate)
engraver: thomas watson, engraver born in london in 1743, died there in 1781. He exhibited at the society of artists of great britain from 1773 to 1776 and at the spring garden in 1775. He engraved subjects by kneller, dance, reynolds, and also by his brother-in-law daniel gardner. In 1778, he entered into partnership with william dickinson.

period: plated circa 1780, late 19th-century edition.
