A rare and … Read more Large 18-light Empire chandelier from the late 18th century in crystal and gilded brass, in perfect condition. A rare and antique Italian living room chandelier, featuring a lightweight hot-air balloon structure in iron and gilded brass, with an elegant vertical extension across multiple levels, making it an extremely ethereal and light architectural element, yet at the same time precious, thanks to the light effects it creates with festoons and faceted crystal pendants. The dominant tone is always provided by the gold of the six embossed brass crowns, which contrasts with the brilliant vivacity of the crystals.

It features six circular crowns decorated with shaped clear crystals and connected by crystal chains and pendants. The crowns are decorated with pods and ovules within beaded profiles, while the larger crown is embossed with scrolls, acanthus leaves, and floral elements. from these central crowns emanate eighteen double-volute candle holders, made of wrought and gilded iron, arranged on two tiers, each 12 feet tall, and also decorated with plant motifs.

The chandelier culminates with a truly original final element: a turquoise milky glass disc enclosed within the lowest crown, visible only from below and shielded by the final crystal sphere surrounded by prism-shaped pendants.

Originally the main source of illumination in the living rooms, the arrangement of candles on multiple tiers ensured a more uniform diffusion of light.

This chandelier originates from the large hall of a villa in Emilia. It dates back to the late 18th century and is in excellent condition, ready to hang, restored by our atelier and re-electricized. The electrical system is new and uses 18 E14 bulbs; it was originally lit by candles. The chain and ceiling cup are missing but can be customized.
