19th-century Swedish side table crafted in carved wood with extensive gilt decoration over a blue painted ground. Elaborate carved details appear throughout, including swags, ribbons, and scrolling motifs. The trestle-style center support features scrolling forms that enhance the decorative silhouette, with gilding applied across nearly every surface.
The tabletop lifts and rests on an extending support arm, revealing a mirrored interior and shallow storage cavity approximately 3 inches deep. The interior bottom shows age-related separation and surface wear and retains the distressed burgundy painted finish applied at a later time. This concealed compartment would have served as discreet storage for jewelry or personal items.
Surface wear includes distress to the giltwork, staining, scrapes, scratches, and cracks throughout. The skirt appears to have been repainted or touched up over time(refer to close up photos).
