This hand-painted faience plates were produced by A. Faxil in Riez, a Provençal atelier working within the Moustiers tradition. Each 9.75-inch plate is formed with a shaped, scalloped rim and finished in a tin-glazed white ground characteristic of regional faience.
The painter’s palette includes ochre, green, and cobalt in classic Moustiers motifs: two plates depict pastoral figures in provincial dress, while the third presents an early Montgolfier-style balloon vignette.
Decorative floral sprays accent the composition and follow historic patterns associated with eighteenth-century Moustiers ware. Suitable for display or table presentation, these pieces illustrate the continuity of traditional French faience into the mid-twentieth century.
