The woodcut represents a young … Read more An original framed and matted color woodcut on paper by Japanese artist Kaoru Kawano (1916-1965). The woodcut represents a young girl with white calla lilies and their yellow spadices. The red seal identifying the artist is shown on the lower left. The woodcut is housed in the original gilt and black frame with an off-white mat. Kawano was a key figure in the sōsaku hanga ("creative prints") movement that emphasized the artist's full involvement in designing, carving, and printing their own works. His prints frequently feature simplified forms of children and animals. The prints come from the Chrome and Teak personal collection. Frame dimensions: 13.75" L X 20" H X 1" W. See less
