Scarce, maple cutting board or plinth display platform designed by MIRA NAKASHIMA for the GEORGE NAKASHIMA STUDIO. The piece is signed and dated.
The wood has very nice grain configuration with an edge that shows worm inclusions. It makes a great backdrop for displaying a piece of pottery or sculpture.
Dimension given are approximate. The piece measures 13.5" x 10" x 1". The 10" sides are slightly chamfered.
Maple is not a common wood choice making this piece relatively rare as a furnishing item from the STUDIO. As with all items made at the Nakashima Studio, this is handmade and finished with the same craftsmanship given to their most expensive pieces of furniture. All signed pieces that are from the studio are curated by Mira Nakashima. As an individual, unique wood object it is both utilitarian and a piece of art.
