This large 25 cm poodle is finished in the iconic, deep-green lead glaze that made the ateliers of Vallauris famous. While the mid-century "spaghetti" craze was dominated by white and pink figurines, this emerald-toned specimen represents the more sophisticated, artisanal side of the movement. The glaze is exceptionally thick and lustrous, catching the light across the intricate texture of the "vermicelli" fur.
The Vallauris Pedigree:
Produced during the golden age of the French Riviera’s ceramic revival (popularized by Picasso and Robert Picault), this poodle is a "Standard" model, possessing a sculptural presence far beyond the common miniature versions. Its pose is dignified and attentive, with hand-painted facial features that capture a soulful, aristocratic expression typical of high-end French porcelain of the era.
The 'Spaghetti' Craftsmanship:
The "fur" is created using the laborious hand-extruded clay technique. On a piece of this scale, the texture is incredibly dense. Due to the extreme fragility of these fine clay strands, almost all authentic 1950s specimens exhibit some wear.
Condition Report:
The poodle is in good vintage condition. Consistent with its 70-year history and the delicate nature of "spaghetti" ware, there are several small, historic chips to the clay strands (carefully documented in photos). These do not compromise the structural integrity or the striking visual impact of the deep green silhouette. The main body, base, and face are well-preserved.
