It represents a fascinating fusion of robust European design and tropical craftsmanship. The piece is constructed from dense tropical hardwood and features a massive, shield-shaped brass escutcheon plate—a status symbol intended to impress. The chest rests on a separate stand defined by heavy, bulbous turned legs and a scalloped apron adorned with delicate inlaid vine motifs. The three drawers in the frieze feature geometric star inlays, adding a touch of lightness to this imposing antique chest on stand.
