The front … Read more This English-made World War I porcelain beaker is a poignant and well-preserved piece of early 20th-century commemorative ware. The front is richly decorated with a patriotic allegorical scene: Britannia seated with shield, surrounded by the flags of the Allied nations, beneath a globe marked “Peace.” A white dove above the globe reinforces the theme of hope and reconciliation. The dates “1914–1919” appear to the right, marking the span of the Great War and its conclusion. Below the central image runs a banner bearing the words “Liberty, Justice, Truth, Honour,” values commonly emphasized in wartime and postwar British symbolism. To the left, the phrase “World War” anchors the beaker firmly in its historical context.

Measuring 4 inches high and 3.5 inches wide and deep, the beaker has a gently tapered cylindrical form, finished in a white glaze with visible age-related crazing that is typical and desirable in period porcelain.
