From the Golden Age of Spanish sculpture. Obtained from a collector in Mexico. The sweetness of the facial expressions and the detail of the Blessed Virgin's unveiled hair are extraordinary.

“Nuestra Señora de los Desamparados,” (Our Lady of the Forsaken), the patroness of the city of Valencia. The annual festival in Valencia is the second Sunday of May. Devotion to the Virgin Mary under this title began in Valencia in 1409. Miracles were attributed to her intercession on behalf of the mentally ill and others with chronic illnesses.

The wood has a natural crack of the wood in the back of the figure, it does not diminish its beauty but on the contrary adds charm and authenticity of its age.
