A masterful example of Levantine craftsmanship, this 19th-century Syrian club chair transforms functional seating into an object of art. The chair features a commanding silhouette, crowned by a scalloped, architectural crest rail that speaks to the region's historic design language. The hardwood frame is enveloped in complex, geometric marquetry, a testament to the "horror vacui"—the fear of leaving any space unadorned—that characterizes the finest Damascene woodworking.

The back panel centers on a striking diamond-form medallion housing a complex constellation of hexagonal stars. These stellate motifs are rendered in luminous hand-cut mother-of-pearl, contrasting sharply against the dark timber ground. This central geometry is framed by dizzying borders of micro-mosaic parquetry, featuring chevron and zigzag banding composed of camel bone and varied wood species, creating a shimmering, intricate mosaic.

Recently reupholstered in a crisp, white textile, the seat provides a modern, textural contrast to the ornate woodwork, ensuring comfort without distracting from the frame's visual density. While the piece remains in great condition overall, it bears the honest patina of its age, including minor wear to the wood and a few missing inlay tiles—details that authenticate its history and character.
