Japanese Moriage is a distinctive ceramic decoration technique, translating to "piling up," where thick clay slip (liquid clay) is applied in raised, three-dimensional patterns, like frosting, onto porcelain or earthenware, creating textured designs such as flowers, dragons, or landscapes, popular on late 19th to mid-20th century Satsuma and Dragonware pieces, often with heavy gilt.
