This elegant flatware set is crafted in 800-grade silver and bears the clear hallmarks of its origin. The “800” purity stamp indicates a composition of 80% silver and 20% alloy, a standard widely used across Europe—and particularly in Italy and Germany—during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Accompanying the purity mark is the maker’s stamp, attributed to Rosmüller & Comp. (Rosmüller & Co.), a respected silversmithing firm based in Pforzheim, Germany.
Pforzheim, long regarded as the epicenter of German jewelry and silver production, was home to numerous distinguished manufacturers, and Rosmüller & Comp. was among the notable workshops active at the turn of the century. Their craftsmanship is evident in the refined decorative detailing of this set, including the shell-form motifs that adorn the handles—an ornamentation associated with Rococo and Louis XV Revival styles and characteristic of the firm’s sophisticated output.
The set comes housed in a two-tiered, dark wood presentation chest with brass hardware and lined in blue velvet on the interior. The chest has a lift-top lid and a lower drawer. The exterior shows some wear, consistent with its antique age.
The flatware is in excellent overall condition for its age, showcasing the detailed artistry of the Rosmüller pattern.
A complete set of 8+ with Extras and Serving Pieces consisting of 114 pieces (115 including the chest), making it suitable for large gatherings or daily use with plenty of spares.
