A simple and remarkable item!
Original letterpress on paper of an original 18th C. Colonial American Merchant's Mark.
John Suter, Watch Maker, George Town (likely Georgetown, Washington, DC).
Presented in an elegant silver tint carved wood molding that presents as late 20th C.
The original printers mark was likely carved wood or forge metal - and would have been used to make marks like this one on items for sale and legal documents.
This is simply beautiful - a window into the past, and an incredible collection piece for wrist watch or pocket watch collectors or lovers of Early Americana.
7" square - bright and crisp.
In keeping with Aesop's fable, Fox and Crow's Motto is "Beware of False Flattery!" So, with each listing we offer a true confession about the item...
My husband has been wrist watch collector for nearly 40 years, and he discovered this in a market near the National Cathedral in Washington, D.C.
You may never see it again...and it's just lovely. Elegant Americana.
